After a very short flight, we arrived in beautiful Quito last Monday morning to be met by Miguel Falck, Juan Faini, Eduaro Sosa, Alfredo Martinez, and Carlos our bus driver. It is such a great feeling to be met by new Rotarian friends.
We have been hosted in individual homes and my hosts, Moises and Nancy Encalada, have gone out of their way to make me comfortable. Thank you so much.
Each day, Rotarians provide interesting experiences for us visiting the projects they are doing--which are many and quite impressive--providing vocational experiences, and showing us the sites.
Many thanks to Gitti Neuman, President of Rotary Club Quito Colonial and Fernando Andrade, President of Rotary Club Quito, for each spending an entire day with us on the same day they also had to conduct their club meeting.
Yesterday, Miguel Falck of Rotary Club of Valle Interoaceanico, took us on a walking tour of old Quito which was fascinating.
A special thanks to Rotary Club Quito Occidente members for transporting me back and forth to our meeting location and President Gloria Landazuri for a lovely evening with dinner at Pims Restaurant overlooking the city and then a tour of old town by night. It was spectacular!
We have made another three presentations here in Quito. Every Rotary Club meeting makes me feel like I am home and is the highlight of my day. It is quite true that you can go any where in the world and be welcomed by a fellow Rotarian.
We leave this morning for a 2-hour trip to Ibarra and then start moving down country with two days in each of the following cities--Ambato, Riobamba, Cuenca, Tomebamba, Loja, Zaruma, and then on to Manta and the District Conference where we will have the opportunity to reconnect with the many Rotary friends we are making.

Ben Reiman
Ben is a behaviour consultant living with his wife in White Rock BC. Ben has a passion for working with people with autism and looks forward to learning and sharing with people in the field of special education. Ben enjoys a local connection when travelling and is looking forward to this incredible journey with an amazing team.
Janene Erickson
Janene works in the Parks & Recreation department for the City of Abbotsford and is currently residing in the Fraser Valley, BC, Canada. She has earned her degree in Kinesiology and plans to pursue her passion for teaching fitness, health promotion and nutrition counselling. For kicks, Janene has run 5 marathons in the last year, including Boston and has decided to try Ironman Canada 2009. Always eager to try new things, she is excited about learning Spanish and experiencing things that only Ecuador has to offer.
Kathleen Goodin
Kathleen Goodin is a registered nurse on a surgical unit in a brand new hospital in Abbotsford, BC. She is one of four children and was raised in Maple Ridge where she currently resides. She spends lots of time with her nieces and nephews and enjoys relaxing in the interior at the family cabin. Theatre is a great joy to Kathleen as it is where she worked before joining the nursing profession. Kathleen is looking forward meeting new people and understanding a new climate in Ecuador.

Involvement in Rotary is a privilege and an incredible opportunity to share both my time and my resources in a way that truly makes a difference. My professional career has been mainly within the credit union movement. I currently own my own business. I started learning Spanish several years ago in preparation for my long-term goal of teaching English where Spanish is the native language.
